Ben, you discuss general opinions that people have but have no basis in fact. You don't advance the argument if you don't deal with facts. Why not deal with the facts rather than the uninformed opinions of the masses and educate those who need it? This is how politicians operate not journalists whose job is to reveal the truth?

Hmm. I'm not quite sure I see where you're coming from on this. There are articles where I do take a more fact-based approach and cite my sources (see the one I did on the Trump Hitler analogy recently, for example). This one demanded less of that, but I do still toss in sources in at a couple of spots. A lot of what I'm saying is that these are opinions people have and much of them aren't rooted in reality. Is the main difference you'd like to see here sources to verify that there are in fact people who believe in each of those conspiracy theories?

That isn't the point. Doesn't seem a post like that accomplishes anything. What does the reader learn from it? If you don't agree with another Trump Presidency, then present the facts why it would be detrimental and dangerous to the future of our nation. Then the reader is educated and learns something useful.

I think what people get from this piece is pretty in line with the title. I'd be curious if you feel that my other work falls short for you in this way. Sometimes I do take a slightly more cerebral stance on the issue, like in this one and "Hasn't It All Been Said?" but other times I'm pretty meticulous in the way that I lay out my cases. Here, the point that I'm trying to prove is that there's an idea people have of Trump, and the reality of who he is. I think it's fair to say I spend the whole piece exploring that idea. I don't expect this to be my political essay that really shifts opinions, but not every piece can.

This is the first piece of yours that I've read. I'm still getting acclimated to Substack, to be honest. I guess I was looking for something else from it. On the other hand, I see now that you weren't trying to convince the reader of the merits or faults of Trump, just present a picture of how people view him.

What all were you looking for? I have a lot of experience on the Medium platform, but Substack is still a newer venture for me. I might be able to answer some questions, though!
