I’ve thought the same thing. Let it all complete its dissolution. Hopefully taking the current generation of billionaires/millionaires down.
The truth is, it’s already in a state of collapse, just in slow motion. Healthcare collapsing now, education collapsing since the 80s. Businesses collapsing into corruption, products in the marketplace are junk, prices are high. . But as long as we see millionaires still functioning we believe it’s a healthy economy, cuz the millionaires and billionaires tell us it is. When it’s not.
Government corrupt, both parties, yes, gop is worse but the Dems are AIPAC, AND ACTIVELY supporting Netanyahu’s genocide… ve lost all respect for them, my party since 1972.
Every time I argue in favor of our government and democracy, there's a certain hollowness to it. I know to the core of my being that the most central promises of our government are infected and the evidence just keeps mounting. I'd hate to see anarchy. But I don't believe that what could come from the worst case scenario Trump rule will be any better. And there's no reason not to believe that whatever future system we have hear couldn't be better than the one we have today. Many nations of the world have undergone that very transition. "Collapse in slow motion is still collapse" sums it up perfectly.
Thanks so much for reading and for sharing, Susan!
I will first thank you for such a well written and informative piece of work. But I also have to apologize for the thought that popped into my head before I even read the article. I read the headline and the first thing that popped into my head was an old vaudeville joke... "why do you keep hitting yourself with that hammer" "cause it feels so good when I stop"... Hey, if we don't laugh we cry, right?
Great start, Dash. Asking hard questions is challenging. I’m hopeful your readers chime in.
The Founders did foresee a monster like Trump in their musings about factions. They just didn’t do anything to stop it because it’s extremely hard to do that without stepping on free speech. Instead they relied on the separation of powers and didn’t see SCOTUS making law by judicial fiat at the behest of Corporate America and the oligarch’s money.
Our judicial system includes prohibitions against perpetuities. 99 year leases and license limitations accomplish part of that. But, corporations are not limited and infinite sequences of mergers grant them free five forever lives. SCOTUS even gave them speech and personhood rights and, in theory, they will never die. Like McConnell in the Senate they just continue hanging around and creating more and more mischief.
Corporations were created to provide specific services, not live forever. Why not recognize those facts and make them pay licensing fees to both the state and federal government to remain active along with mandatory periodic renewal reviews. But, their lives would have a finite end along with dissolution and sale of its assets, like recycling processes.
To get there, the People must find common ground and create and implement a program similar to the one Lewis Powell crated in 1972, except it’s would be the polar opposite of his creation. This would not be an extension of either the Republican or Democratic parties. It would necessarily be about protecting and defending all of the individual’s rights from the impositions and unbridled capitalistic greed that has infected our governance and political system with unlimited corruption favoring business and oligarchs. Democracy is about actual people speaking with words, not speech being defined as money from an artificially created entity.
I feel I should clarify I actually am not Dash. Interestingly enough, I came up with the name for my Substack independently of him and went a couple months before I actually chanced onto some of his writing. I haven't achieved his level of readership, so feel free to share this one! I'd love the support.
Regarding your comment, I couldn't agree more. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and reply!
Apologies, Ben. I realized the gaffe after pressing send and discovered editing wasn’t possible. Mea culpa.
Your generation will need to solve the Trump conundrum. I’ll continue to offer suggestions to spark your collective imaginations with a fervent hope for your success. Please keep going. The future of America is in your hands.

Yeah...
Firstly, good. Glad to see people are thinking, and saying the quiet part aloud, and without radical slogans. Good for you!
But, like a poet once wrote, too bad, neither you nor I will live to see such beautiful time...
🙂
